Topic Description: At first I wanted to do a personal depiction of a favorite song of mine, but thinking more into it, I'm choosing to do a short story of a young adult who runs away from home but soon learns that he misses it and truly "home is where the heart is".
I chose this topic by twisting personal experiences. I never ran away from home, but school is a few hours from home and I miss being home. I don't mind where I am here, but back home is definitely where I feel most comfortable and where I belong.
I plan to take mostly my own pictures to depict the story. Thinking of staging pictures of arguing with my parents then "running away". The pictures following would be pictures from a different setting that show I am not happy in the new place and I start missing home. The last segment of pictures would include going back home, making up with my parents, and living my life happily at home.
Critics 1: Sontag says, for a photo to get a response, the viewer must be familiar with the images to feel anything.
Reflection 1: I hope to take or find pictures that the audience can relate to, because as Sontag says, they have to be relatable for the audience to feel anything. Also, this can relate to Ramage’s idea of “in the company of others”. This idea is where the audience sees an image and makes a conclusion about that image based on similar images they have seen.
Critics 2: Sontag had another point that really struck: "Although there is a sense that the camera does indeed capture reality, not just interpret it, photographs are as much an interpretation of the world as paintings and drawings are".
Reflection 2: Using this idea from Sontag, I want my photos to not only interpret reality, but capture it. In other words, I want the audience to look at my photos and view them as being real, not a stage photo.
Search: I found most of my images from Google Images. I feel as though that’s the easiest way to find them.
Prezi: I have never used Prezi before but it seems pretty simple. I kind of have an idea of how I want to arrange the photos and I have photos in my head that I want to either take/find. I am still not exactly sure how the story will work out with the photos so I’m sure I will be constantly changing the images around.
My Point: What I’m trying to show here is that when you have problems in life, it is best not to run away from them. Running away from them only makes it worse and can make you feel even lonelier. Also, I want to show here that home is where the heart is. So many families now-a-days are splitting up and there are broken marriages and children separated from their parents. I want to show that problems occur in a family, but that doesn’t mean that you should run away from it.
